Simple Berry Compote: A Versatile Way to Add Sweetness to Your Day!

Berry compote is a go-to recipe that feels effortless, but packs a flavor punch atop my buttered toast, pancakes and waffles, swirled into my yogurt, and even as a companion for my matcha!

It’s quick, flexible, and made with ingredients you probably already have on hand. But once it comes together—warm, slightly sweet, gently tangy—it has a way of elevating even the simplest meals.

This simple compote:

  • Adds natural sweetness and flavor
  • Works with both sweet and cozy meals
  • Uses frozen berries (so you can make it anytime)
  • Comes together in just minutes!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of frozen berries (any kind you like! Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or a mix)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • A squeeze of fresh lemon juice (around a tablespoon)

How to Make Berry Compote

Step 1: Add Everything to a Pan

Place your frozen berries into a pan over medium heat.

Add your sugar and a squeeze of lemon juice.

Step 2: Let It Simmer

As the berries heat up, they’ll begin to soften and release their juices. Stir occasionally and let the mixture gently simmer.

You’ll notice the berries breaking down and the liquid thickening slightly over time.

Step 3: Adjust and Finish

Taste your compote and adjust if needed:

  • Add more sugar for sweetness
  • A little more lemon for brightness

Once it reaches your desired consistency (soft, slightly thick, and glossy), it’s ready!
